Microsoft today released Beta of Windows Service Pack 2 to the MSDN subscribers. The Beta will be open to general public on Thursday. The Service Pack update also updates the Windows Server 2008.
This is the first time Microsoft has packaged one download that applies to both client and server editions of the Operating Systems. Like always the company asks the users not to try out the beta.
The CPP(customer preview program) is intended for technology enthusiasts, developers, and IT pros who would like to test Service Pack 2 in their environments and with their applications prior to final release,” Nash said. “For most customers, our best advice would be to wait until the final release prior to installing this service pack.
Microsoft has not set the delivery date for Vista SP2 and Server 2008 SP2, but we had heard earlier that a Release Candidate will be released in February and the final version would appear in April 2009.
The Size of the Vista SP2 will be about 41MB for the 32-bit version and 60MB for the 64-bit version. The Size for Windows Server 2008 will be 47MB and 90MB for 32-bit and 64-bit editions respectively.
